WHITE OUT
For the New York Jets vs. Green Bay Packers "White Out" game, played September 20 at MetLife Stadium, I made a paper collage that is really a portrait of the stadium itself.
The brief asked for a homage to MetLife. I wanted to hold the whole thing and the smallest thing at once: the stadium in its entirety, then the players, then the numbers on their jerseys. At that scale, detail becomes a kind of stubbornness.
White Out means white is the protagonist. In several places it isn't color at all, it's absence: the empty paper doing the work color would normally do, filling the stadium the way 80,000 people in white filled it.
Nothing is printed. Every number, every logo, the Jets, MetLife, is hand-cut and hand-glued, layer over layer, each at a different thickness, so the depth is real and not simulated.
